In the state of Minnesota. Each district provides one Senator and two Representatives to the Minnesota State Legislature. While the districts are equal in population, approximately 75,750 people or 1.4% off the total state population, they vary greatly their demographics: physical size, ratio of urban to suburban to agricultural populations, average levels of education and income. Minnesota's senate districts represent the diversity of our great state. Periodically, the state legislature redraws senate district borders to adjust for the growth and movement of population within a region and thus, district outlines can be complex, particularly in an urban area like the Twin Cities. A good example of this is our own SD60 (map).

SD60 is comprised of 26 precincts belonging to 5 Minneapolis city wards. SD60 stretches from downtown up through areas around Lake of the Isles and Lakes Calhoun and Harriet.

How are we organized?

We are a volunteer DFL organization composed of officers, directors, and precinct chairs and co-chairs elected by their peers bi-annually at caucuses or the senate district convention. The district Executive Committee, made up of the district officers and directors, manages daily business year round. Organizing and political activity is the business of the larger Central Committee, comprised of both the district officers, directors, and the precinct chairs and co-chairs.

We firmly believe that all constituencies within SD60 have a right to representation and actively seek out members from all communities to join us. Volunteers are welcome; they are the lifeblood of the DFL. All of our meetings are open to the public and the public is most welcome. SD60 Constitution and Bylaws.

Who lives in SD60

Senate District 60 is a DFL stronghold and proud of our history for being caring, hardworking, and liberal. We are an amalgam of people of all ages and backgrounds who face the same critical issues most other Minnesotans face: education, employment, healthcare, retirement, and concerns for the futures of our children.
